Potency Profile of Hash: Dry Ice versus Ice Water

By Derrick Snow, H. McDonald, and Samuel David, Coastal Analytical, San Diego, California

There are various methods for making hash, some involve mechanical separation, others use chemical extraction. The bubble hash method uses ice water, while another popular method uses dry ice, to mechanically separate trichomes from leaves and stems. The work presented here compares the cannabinoid potency profiles from hash produced using ice water to hash produced using dry ice. Results showed that the hash made with ice water was more concentrated in THC, CBD, and other cannabinoids than hash made using dry ice.
